Recently released ratings for Lexington's television stations in July showed continued viewership declines in local news.
Stations saw a similar drop in May.
Theories for the drop include that mild weather in July meant more people than usual were outside instead of watching TV. Also, there were few instances of severe weather, which tends to spike viewership, or compelling local news events.
Household ratings were down across the board, except for NBC affiliate WLEX-18 at 11 p.m. and Fox affiliate WDKY-56 at 7 a.m.
WLEX won the majority of time slots in household ratings, reversing the results of the May ratings. At that time, CBS affiliate WKYT-27 won the majority.
The July ratings books are generally viewed as less important than other months because the number of people watching television is at its lowest level of the year. Plus, networks don't air major programming during the time period.
