More than 250 employees and contractors of Kentucky Utilities and E.ON U.S. are helping restore power knocked out by Hurricane Gustav in Louisiana.
Lexington-based Kentucky Utilities is part of E.ON U.S., based in Louisville. Crews will replace or repair poles, towers, cross-arms and transformers for Entergy.
Entergy is headquartered in New Orleans and had more than 830,000 customers without power throughout Louisiana after Gustav blew through.
E.ON U.S. participates in a mutual assistance program, in which a collection of utility companies assists other utilities in times of natural disasters and crisis situations.
Entergy said that 119 transmission lines and 35 substations were out of service Monday and that more than 9,000 restoration workers were on-site or en route to restore power.
