Ky. foreclosures down from December

Foreclosures dropped 23.9 percent in Kentucky from December to January, according to RealtyTrac, the California firm that tracks foreclosures nationwide.

The January rate was 17.3 percent above Kentucky's foreclosure rate in January 2008, RealtyTrac said, despite the moratorium on foreclosures by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in January.

One of every 2,841 Kentucky households was involved in a foreclosure in January. Kentucky was ranked 40th among the states in January. Since October, the state's monthly ranking has ranged between 38th and 43rd.

Nationwide, foreclosure filings declined 9.6 percent from December to January, but were up 17.8 percent from a year earlier, RealtyTrac said. One in every 466 U.S. households as involved in foreclosure in January.
