Toyota's Georgetown plant receives its ninth quality award

J.D. Power and Associates has honored Toyota's Georgetown plant with its ninth plant quality award, the most for any auto-assembly plant in North America.

The award came as part of J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study, which assesses new-vehicle quality as measured at 90 days of ownership.

The study awarded Toyota's Georgetown plant a bronze award, the factory's third, as J.D. Power noted just 43 problems per 100 vehicles. The plant had just one measured problem or defect more than the silver award-winning General Motors plant in Oshawa, Ontario, and two more than the gold award that went to a Honda plant in East Liberty, Ohio.

The Georgetown plant also has received three silver and three gold awards during its 20-plus years of operation.

Two other Kentucky automotive plants tied the plant and received bronze awards. The first is the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville that produces Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups. GM's Bowling Green plant that produces the Chevrolet Corvette also was honored.

The Toyota Avalon, which is produced at Georgetown, was ranked second in the large car segment behind the Mercury Sable.
