Lexington-based Gray Construction has been hired to design, engineer and oversee the expansion of building that will become an assembly plant for a startup automotive company.
V-Vehicle has the backing of venture capitalist Kleiner Perkins and former Texas oil magnate T. Boone Pickens and is promising environmentally friendly vehicles.
For its assembly plant, the company is expanding a factory in Monroe, La., that was once a General Motors plant, according to Gray's statement. The Lexington firm is responsible for doubling the facility's size to a total of 800,000 square feet.
"We're excited to have a role in this transformative project that so inspiringly illustrates the imagination of the American spirit," Gray president Stephen Gray said in the company' statement.
Vehicle production at the plant is expected to begin in late 2010, according to Gray.
