You'll have plenty of company at celebration dinners

If you need a reason to celebrate during the next few days, pick one of these: Derby on Saturday, University of Kentucky graduation on Sunday, and Cinco de Mayo on Monday. Then, next weekend, May 11 is Mother's Day.
Here are some events and specials around town to accommodate those celebrations:
Kentucky Derby: Three Suns Bistro in Nicholasville's Brannon Crossing will serve lamb with mint julep sauce as a special on Friday and Saturday. Call (859) 245-0048 or visit www.threesunsbistro.com.
UK graduation:
■ Portofino Restaurant will open at noon and serve its dinner menu until 9 p.m. Regular Sunday hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Portofino is at 249 East Main Street. Call (859) 253-9300 or visit www.portofinolexington.com.
■ Three Suns Bistro will be open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Cinco de Mayo: These restaurants are celebrating Cinco de Mayo on Monday. Or, you might want to check out the specials at your neighborhood Mexican restaurant or grocery.
■ Buddy's Bar & Grill, 845 East High Street, (859) 335-1283, www.buddysbarandgrill.com. Mexican food and drink specials beginning at 11 a.m.
■ Durango's, 2121 Richmond Road, (859) 268-0723. Margarita and food specials begin at 11 a.m. A mariachi band will perform and, weather permitting, outside seating will be available.
■ Winchell's, 348 Southland Drive, (859) 278-9424, www.winchellsrestaurant.com. Featured are homemade red and green salsas, posole stew, chicken enchiladas, tacos asado, pork tamales, sopapillas.
Mother's Day: This is one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants. If you're taking Mom out, make reservations now.
■ Azur, Beaumont Centre, (859) 296-1007, www.azurrestaurant.com. Brunch, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; includes crab cakes, lemon-vanilla pancakes and grilled lamb chops.
■ Campbell's in Paris, 519 Main Street, (859) 987-5164, www.campbellsinparis.com. A buffet, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes leg of lamb, raspberry chipotle glazed salmon and steamship round of beef. The cost is $26.95.
■ Good Foods Market & Café, 455 Southland Drive, (859) 278-1813, www.goodfoods.coop. Brunch will feature eggs Benedict with an avocado Hollandaise, candied-walnut-encrusted French toast, salmon croquettes, cheese grits, and warm pear and caramel bread pudding. Brunch hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
■ Portofino Restaurant will open early, serving from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m
■ Talon Winery, 7086 Tates Creek Road, (859) 971-9797, www.talonwine.com. Brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ca”barn“et Barn. Tours of the vineyard will be available.
■ Three Suns Bistro. Brunch menu includes six entrees, salads, cheeses and fruits, crudités, shrimp and a dessert buffet.
■ Tinker's Cake Shop, 109 Springdale Drive, Nicholasville, (859) 224-0639. Tinker's will have chocolate-covered strawberries, champagne truffles and decorated cakes.
Anniversary tastings
The Village Vineyard is celebrating its second anniversary with Chimay beer and Spanish wine tastings from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The shop is in South Elkhorn Village at 4379 Old Harrodsburg Road. Call (859) 389-6719.
A creamy cucumber treat

Farmers market reports
■ The Blue Grass Farmers' Market will have heirloom tomato, pepper and herb plants; asparagus; mustard greens; green onions; rhubarb; mint, and lettuce. Potted flowering baskets also will be for sale. The market is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Pedal the Planet and Fast Signs on Richmond Road.
■ Honest Farm Market, 208 Dudley Street in Midway, has plenty of fresh mint for Derby Day juleps. On Saturday, the market will have herb, vegetable and flower plants; hanging flower baskets; flower seeds; fresh watercress, and kale. Call (859) 846-4155 or visit www.honestfarm.org.
