  • Biking group is honored

    WalkBike Frankfort was recently the recipient of the 2008 Outstanding Plan Award from the Kentucky Chapter of the American Planning Association for its development of the Frankfort/Franklin County Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan. The master plan contains a long-range bike and pedestrian network and a map of prioritized projects within Franklin County. Call (502) 875-4545 for more information.

  • Midway College is focus of Cane Ridge Day

    Midway College was the focus of the annual Cane Ridge Day celebration held June 28 at the historic Cane Ridge Shrine in Bourbon County. Church members told the histories of the Midway Christian Church and the historic Second Christian Church, both institutions with ties to the history of Midway College. Midway College President Emeritus Robert Botkin was a guest speaker.

    Paula Strunk, administrator at The Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Berea, and volunteer Rebecca Croucher recently achieved national and state recognition respectively for their work at the long-term care facility in Madison County.

  • Toyota names vehicle winners for attendance

    Fourteen team members from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Inc. are owners of new Toyota vehicles following TMMK's annual Perfect Attendance Ceremony at Rupp Arena. This year's winners are Karl Baker Jr. and Wade Christensen of Georgetown; Michael Collier of Paris; Gary Adamson of Maysville; Craig Conner, James Baldwin, Ryan Trimble, Michael Haggan, Steven Pratt, David Roland and Sue Henson of Lexington; Michael Dick of Cynthiana; Daniel Foushee of Winchester; and Irvin G.     Scouts clean up, fix up cemetery

    Twenty-four Boy Scouts and adult leaders from Troop 73 in Lexington recently traveled to a North Middletown cemetery to cut and clear brush, trim trees, install a flagpole and a bench, place flags on veterans' graves for Memorial Day, plant flowers and clean tombstones for Zach Buhler's Eagle Scout project.

    Singletary to host 32 contestants

    Thirty-two contestants representing local scholarship pageants from across the state will be vying for the title of Miss Kentucky 2008 at 7 p.m. July 17 and 18, with the final night of competition at 7:30 p.m. July 19 at the Singletary Center for the Arts on the campus of the University of Kentucky.

    Grand Session honors girls' Rainbow group

    Hart Assembly No. 61 of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls attended the Grand Session June 20 through 22 at the Scottish Rite Temple in Louisville. The group was honored with the Grand Delegates from Nicholasville: Breanna Duncan to Kansas and Bolivia; Abby Phillips to Maryland; and Whitney Hafley to Washington/Idaho and New York. Sarah O'Corcoran was appointed as Grand Christian Flag Bearer. The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is a non-profit service organization for girls between 11 and 20. The Rainbow Pledge organization is for girls 7 to 11. Rainbow teaches leadership, self-confidence, and love of country and one another. Call (859) 887-2092.

    Lincoln exhibit to visit Berea Artisan Center

    The Kentucky Historical Society's HistoryMobile, featuring an exhibit titled Kentucky's Abraham Lincoln, will be in the parking lot of the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday.     Reptiles, bugs will be there

    Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, Golden Pond, will have Cool and Crawly Critters Day 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Woodlands Nature Station. Events will include: UK's Insect Road Show with live giant bugs and spiders, experts from the Louisville Zoo hosting live snake programs, and faculty from Austin Peay University presenting reptiles and amphibians.
