Midway College is focus of Cane Ridge Day

Young patrons of the Woodford County Library released the library's pet monarch butterflies into the wild at the end of their Fancy Nancy Butterfly Tea Party on June 27.

Midway College was the focus of the annual Cane Ridge Day celebration held June 28 at the historic Cane Ridge Shrine in Bourbon County. Church members told the histories of the Midway Christian Church and the historic Second Christian Church, both institutions with ties to the history of Midway College. Midway College President Emeritus Robert Botkin was a guest speaker.

Riding the rails

The Bluegrass Scenic Railroad hosted a group of 70 children and counselors from the Scott County YMCA Primetime on July 1 for an Independence Day special chartered train ride. The children had lunch in the county pavilion, enjoyed an hourlong train ride, listened to a story of the history of the 1895 Louisville Southern railroad, saw a working telegraph and learned about Morse code.
