Toyota began production of its Highlander sport-utility vehicle Thursday at its plant in Princeton, Ind.
The plant, which also builds the Sienna and Sequoia, previously produced the Tundra pickup until its production was consolidated last fall at a plant in Texas.
Since that time, the automaker has been preparing the Princeton plant to build the SUV. It retained all of its employees during the downtime and even sent more than a hundred who volunteered to its plant in Georgetown, which produces Camrys, Avalons and the new Venza crossover.
