Art Guild hosts Mother's Day brunch

There will be a Mother's Day Brunch on Sunday at the Winchester Opera House Ballroom, 10 East Lexington Avenue. Seatings are at 10 a.m. and noon. Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for children ages 4 to 10, free for children younger than 3. This is a fund-raiser for the Winchester Art Guild & Guild House Gallery. Towns must decide on sharing regional water

It's put-up-or-shut-up time for the towns around Lexington that have talked for years about sharing in a regional water system. At a Bluegrass Water Supply Commission meeting Thursday, a June 2 deadline was agreed on to decide whether the commission -- acting on behalf of some of its members -- will buy into Kentucky American Water's newly approved treatment plant and pipeline.

A judge on Thursday delayed the murder trial of Patrick and Joy Watkins in the death of 10-year-old Michaela Watkins and will consider whether to move the trial out of Clark County.

    A fire at the old Rockwell International plant near Interstate 64 in Clark County created heavy smoke Sunday but little damage. An unidentified Clark County firefighter suffered heat exhaustion but no serious injury, said Chief Brian McCord. The fire primarily involved wooden pallets and plastics stored outside what is now the Rockwell Business Center on Rockwell Road. McCord said a worker apparently had left a small fire that spread. The chief said the smoke, which reportedly could be seen in Lexington...

    The owners of a Winchester house that burned overnight were charged Monday with arson, authorities said. Arlie Younce, 20, was charged with second-degree arson and his wife, Britta Younce, 21, was charged with complicity to arson, said Winchester police Detective James Hall.

    A major Central Kentucky cable provider could see a change in its ownership and future direction by the end of the month. Time Warner Cable, which serves 80,000 homes in the counties around Lexington and in other Kentucky cities including Ashland and Owensboro, could soon be spun off by majority shareholder Time Warner. The latter owns 84 percent of the company's stock.
