Friends and acquaintances of David W. Jacobs are still trying to make sense of the strange and unexpected death of the longtime Clark County coroner.

Jacobs' body was found in a Richmond motel room on July 4, a week after he disappeared from his Winchester home and 17 days after he was arrested in Lexington's Jacobson Park on a charge indecent exposure.

Authorities said Jacobs apparently took his own life at the Best Western motel, using prescription medications. Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison's office is awaiting results from toxicology tests, but Cornelison said he doesn't expect that the results will alter the original conclusion that Jacobs committed suicide.

.It's a very tragic ending to a very sad story,. said Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue, whose office had been seeking Jacobs since he was reported missing June 27.

Two weeks after he was charged with indecent exposure, Clark County Coroner David W. Jacobs has been reported missing to police.

The report was taken Friday and Jacobs' name was entered into a missing persons database, said Deputy Sheriff Mark Craycraft. A roommate, Chuck Corby Jr., filed the report, Craycraft said.

.David is a friend of mine, and we're all concerned about him,. Craycraft said. .We just want to make sure he's OK..

Corby, who had last seen Jacobs on Friday morning, had no comment when contacted Tuesday. He said in the missing persons report that Jacobs had left a letter indicating he wanted to harm himself.
