When I heard about the crash on the "roller coaster road" that killed two young people, I thought: Oh, no. Not again. I've been driving Dry Ridge Road in Woodford County for more than 30 years, usually while squeezing the steering wheel and hoping somebody wouldn't pop over a hill and hit me head-on.
The case of a man accused of leaving the scene of an accident in which a University of Kentucky student was killed April 13 has been sent to a grand jury. Shannon D. Houser, 36, who has pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with physical evidence, appeared in court Thursday morning. A man was found dead Tuesday night in a burning vehicle in Jessamine County, Kentucky State Police said. Late Wednesday authorities said they were investigating the death as a murder. The Jessamine County Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire about 8 p.m. Tuesday on Hunters Ferry Road, and firefighters found the man's body after extinguishing the blaze, state police said. Further examination of dental and medical records is needed to identify the body, state police said.

The Kentucky Supreme Court has ruled that a man who fathers a child during an affair with a married woman has no legal rights to fatherhood. The vote was divided at 4-3, but the ruling upheld the presumption that a child born to a married woman living with her husband is a child of the marriage. A major Central Kentucky cable provider could see a change in its ownership and future direction by the end of the month. Time Warner Cable, which serves 80,000 homes in the counties around Lexington and in other Kentucky cities including Ashland and Owensboro, could soon be spun off by majority shareholder Time Warner. The latter owns 84 percent of the company's stock.
