A man died early Saturday after being impaled by a piece of wood when his vehicle crashed into a plank fence on Sulphur Well Road in Jessamine County, authorities said.
The Jessamine County Sheriff's Department identified the victim as Jerry Blakeman Jr., 29, of Jessamine County.
The sheriff's department said it received a call at about 5:50 a.m. Saturday. Deputies arrived on the scene to find Blakeman unresponsive on the ground beside his vehicle.
The incident remains under investigation, but the sheriff's department said Blakeman apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed it into a plank fence.
A board from the fence smashed through the windshield and impaled Blakeman in the chest, officials said.
Alcohol and rainy weather are suspected as contributing factors in the crash, the sheriff's department said. Blakeman is survived by a five-year-old daughter, according to the sheriff's department.
