At cultural weekend, focus is on film

Asbury College will host an ”Engaging Culture Weekend“ Thursday through Saturday for students and the Central Kentucky community to explore the importance of ideas, truth and the art of film. Professor Greg Bandy and communications department students are producing the events, which include the Spring Classics Concert, Narnia Night and Highbridge Film Festival. ■ Academy Award nominee and Emmy-winning composer Bruce Broughton and Asbury College music students present the Spring Classics Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Hughes Auditorium. It is free.

■ Narnia Night will offer unseen clips and a super-trailer from the newest ­addition to C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia films, Prince Caspian, at 7 p.m. Friday in Hughes Auditorium. The evening includes a presentation by noted Narnia scholar, and Asbury professor Devin Brown. Free.

■ Student films from across the country will be featured at the fourth annual Highbridge Film Festival at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Hughes Auditorium. Judges include Kim Darby, best known for her role in True Grit, starring John Wayne. Admission is $5.

Also at Asbury College:

Reduced Shakespeare, a compilation of William Shakespeare's entire dramatic collection performed in about two hours, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the Doddridge-Holland Theatre.
