Golf tournament to benefit PAWS
The Paris Animal Welfare Society will hold its annual golf tournament at Houston Oaks Golf Course, 555 Houston Oaks Drive in Paris, with a 12:30 p.m. tee time (shotgun) on June 16.
The golf tournament is an important fund-raiser for the Paris-Bourbon County animal shelter, and this year's tournament offers prizes that include a 2008 Buick Enclave and a set of irons. The day concludes with a dinner at 6 p.m. The cost is $75 per person or $300 per foursome. The tournament is limited to 120 golfers, so early reservations are encouraged. Color it Derby
Only a few days are left to enter the Derby coloring contest for children at the Paris-Bourbon County Library, 701 High Street, with entries due at the library by Friday. Children ages up to age 12 can pick up a coloring sheet at the library. Only one entry can be accepted per child. Judges will select a first place winner in three age groups: 3 and younger, 4-7, and 8-12.
Food drive by PO
The national Stamp Out Hunger drive conducted by the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United States Postal Service will be May 10. Participants should place non-perishable food donations by their mailbox and letter carriers will collect and deliver them to the Operation Food Basket food bank. All food collected stays in the community and is distributed to the less fortunate. Donations can also be dropped off at the Paris Post Office, 201 West Eighth Street, during normal business hours through May 10. Craft vendors sought
Historic Ruddles Mills, Inc., a Bourbon County non-profit organization, has scheduled its spring festival for June 14 and is looking for craft vendors who would like to sell their products at the one-day event. Fire department to hold pig roast
The Little Rock Volunteer Fire Department will have a pig roast at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the fire department, 4499 Little Rock-Jackstown Road in Little Rock. The major fund-raiser for the department offers a menu that includes pork loin with homemade barbecue sauce, beans, potatoes, cole slaw, bread, soft drinks, hot coffee and homemade desserts, all for $5.
Gymnastics at the Y
The Paris-Bourbon County YMCA, 917 Main Street, Paris, offers gymnastic classes for ages 3-11 every Thursday evening. Participants will learn forward and backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels, back handsprings and much more in a program designed to develop coordination, strength, balance, flexibility and better self-esteem.
Classes are 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for ages 3-5, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for ages 6-8 and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for ages 9-11. Fees are $35 per month for members, $45 for non-members. Call (859) 987-1395.
Lifeguard training
The Paris-Bourbon County YMCA, will offer an American Red Cross lifeguard recertification class from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Fees are $75 for recertification, $150 for new lifeguards. Call (859) 987-1395.
