Derrick Miller pleads guilty in ticket scam

Former University of Kentucky basketball player Derrick Miller pleaded guilty Wednesday for his role in a ticket scam in Clark County.

Miller, 42, was originally charged in September with two felony counts of theft by deception. Police said two Winchester businessmen paid a total of $2,595 for tickets to UK basketball games but never received the tickets.

Miller pleaded guilty to two amended charges of criminal attempt, a misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 360 days, according to the Clark County Circuit Clerk's office.

Miller faces similar theft by deception charges in Fayette County and at least four other counties across Kentucky. Miller's preliminary hearing in Lexington is scheduled for Dec. 7.

Another former UK basketball player, Ed Davender, has been indicted on 23 counts of theft by deception for an alleged $70,000 ticket scam he ran in Fayette County. His arraignment in that case is scheduled for Dec. 4.

Davender was also indicted by a Harrison County grand jury Nov. 3 on three counts of theft by deception involving more than $300.

Police have said Miller and Davender did not work together in the alleged scams.
