UPDATED | Bond set for men accused in death of man hit by train

Bond was set Thursday at $250,000 cash for each of two men charged in the death of a Lexington man whose body was struck by a train.

Steven D. Dykes, 44, and Charles M. Atkins, 49, pleaded not guilty Friday in Fayette District Court to manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence. Stephen Mazyck's body was found about 11:15 a.m. Aug. 7 along the railroad tracks next to Old Paris Road.

The men appeared in Fayette District Court for a preliminary hearing Thursday morning.

The charges were waived to a grand jury.

Court records say Dykes and Atkins assaulted Mazyck, 53, then moved his body to the railroad tracks, where he was struck by the R.J. Corman train.

Dykes and Atkins lived at a homeless camp set up near where Mazyck was found. Mazyck lived with his girlfriend, Wendy Muchow of Lexington, for more than 20 years.

Muchow says Mazyck left the night before to get drinks with a friend and never returned. She wasn't sure how he crossed paths with Atkins and Dykes.
