Toddler impales eye with a key

A young Perryville boy was flown to Kentucky Children's Hospital in Lexington after he reportedly impaled his eye with a key.

The toddler has not been identified. But Boyle County Schools Superintendent Steve Burkich told The Advocate-Messenger newspaper in Danville that the boy is the son of Perryville Elementary School Principal Chris Holderman.

The boy, who is about 2-years-old, may have been holding the key when he fell and the key went into his eye, said Chris Coffman, spokesman for the Boyle County Fire Department, the agency that responded to the call.

Coffman said the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Emergency responders went to a home on Harrodsburg Road just outside Perryville, Coffman said.

A hospital spokeswoman said she could not give a condition without a patient's first and last name.
