KSU president gets raise, contract extension

- ajester@herald-leader.com

Kentucky State University President Mary Evans Sias has been given a four-year contract extension and a 10.6 percent raise.

Sias' annual salary will increase from $216,996 to $240,000, she confirmed.

The new contract takes effect April 29, 2009. If Sias remains at KSU for the entire four years of the pact, she will receive a $75,000 incentive award.

The action was taken last Thursday at a special meeting of the KSU Board of Regents in Frankfort on the campus of the historically black university.

Laura Douglas of Louisville, the board chairwoman, said in a news release: "We are very pleased with Dr. Sias' performance and the progress the university has made under her administration."

Among the factors cited in the board's decision were increased enrollment, greater administrative efficiency and effectiveness, and improved relationships with the Frankfort area community and the General Assembly.

Sias, 58, came to KSU in 2004 from a senior vice presidency at the University of Texas at Dallas. She said last month that she hopes to spend the rest of her career at KSU.
