Brooksville man dies trying to evade police officer

- kward1@herald-leader.com

A Brooksville man died in a crash early Saturday after allegedly trying to evade a Junction City police officer who was trying to stop him.

John A. Gilbert, 34, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet C1500 truck "in a reckless manner" when the officer turned on his emergency equipment and tried to make a traffic stop, state police said.

Gilbert did not stop. He was driving north on Old Hustonville Road in Boyle County when he entered a curve too fast. The truck left the road and went down an embankment before overturning several times. Gilbert, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.
