Leaks detected at Blue Grass Army Depot

Two leaks of different chemical agents were detected Tuesday at Blue Grass Army Depot near Richmond, but officials said neither poses risk or danger to people in the area.

A mobile laboratory detected low levels of mustard agent vapor inside an igloo containing several thousand projectiles, Army officials reported.

A few hours later, a separate mobile monitoring lab detected nerve agent GB vapor inside another igloo containing M55 rockets.

Both leaks were discovered during routine toxic chemical monitoring of the chemical weapons stockpile.

Chemical workers have taken measures to capture all agent particles and to prevent their escape into the outside atmosphere, a news release said.
