Man in serious condition after Bath County stabbing

- jhewlett@herald-leader.com

A 26-year-old man was in serious condition Thursday night at University of Kentucky Hospital after he was stabbed several times earlier in the day in Bath County. Michael Bretz, 41, of Owingsville, and a 14-year-old boy have been charged with first-degree assault, Kentucky State Police said.

Authorities responded to an assault complaint on Washington Branch Road in the county at 1:23 a.m. They found Nathan Purvis stabbed once in the abdomen, once in the back and once in the neck, state police said. Bretz was being held in the Montgomery County jail. The juvenile was taken to the Boyd County juvenile detention center.
