Meth-lab fire reported at Somerset hotel

- eulber@herald-leader.com

A methamphetamine lab in a Somerset hotel caught fire Sunday night.

No injuries have been reported.

The Somerset Fire Department responded to a fire at the Economy Inn in Somerset, 422 Monticello Street, about 11 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters extinguished the fire without any damage to other units, according to a news release from the fire department.

Fire officials say Assistant Fire Chief Skip Norfleet found a meth lab in the bathroom of the fire-damaged unit. The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated by the Somerset Fire Investigation Team and Kentucky State Marshall's Office, according to the release.

The release said there were two occupants in the unit at the time of the fire. Witnesses reported that one of the occupants, Jody Glover, left the scene before firefighters arrived. Glover was found about 8:30 a.m. Monday nearly a half-mile from the hotel, behind the State Highway Garage, according to the release.

Detective Shannon Smith of the Somerset Police Department said no one had been charged by Monday afternoon.
