- aclark@herald-leader.com

A University of Kentucky student died Tuesday night after his truck slammed into a tree.

Robert P. Helton, 21, of West Liberty was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup east on Ky. 844 in Morgan County when the truck dropped off the right shoulder about 8 p.m., according to Kentucky State Police. Helton overcorrected and crossed into the westbound lane. He ran off the road and hit a tree, police said.

Morgan County Coroner Kenny Perry pronounced Helton dead at Morgan County Appalachian Regional Healthcare Hospital. State police were investigating.
