closeFour children were removed from what authorities described as a filthy Pulaski County home Friday afternoon, and their parents have been charged with first-degree criminal abuse.
The Pulaski County sheriff's office reported finding the children — ages 6 months, 2, 9 and 10 years old — living in a home at 2400 Glade Fork Road in Crab Orchard that was filled with roaches, flies, dog feces, rotting food, soiled diapers and garbage. The home had broken windows and holes in the floor.
The sheriff's office had been called to the home to conduct a welfare check about 1:30 p.m. Friday after the children's father forced state child protection workers off the property, according to a news release.
Alvena Pike, 31, and James Pike, 44, were each arrested on charges of four counts of abuse.
The children were taken from the home by workers from the state Department of Protection and Permanency and are being cared for by family members.
