Man faces charges after wreck kills motorcyclist

- shopkins@herald-leader.com

A Henry County man was charged with aggravated second-degree drunken driving after the pickup he was driving struck a motorcyclist who later died, Kentucky State Police said.

Alan R. Parrish, 42, of Smithfield, was driving the pickup truck south on Ky. 55 on Tuesday when the vehicle dropped off the edge of the highway. Parrish overcorrected, and the pickup crossed the center line, hit an embankment, overturned and spun around, striking the motorcycle, state police said.

Robert F. Nolan, 75, of New Castle, was riding the motorcycle north on Ky. 55. State police said he was not wearing a helmet.

Nolan was taken to University of Louisville Hospital, where he died.

Parrish, who reportedly had been wearing a seat belt, was not injured, state police said.

He was arrested at the scene. On Wednesday, state police said other charges were pending.
