Crash kills Mount Vernon woman

- jhewlett@herald-leader.com

An 81-year-old woman died and two people were injured in a head-on crash in Mount Vernon on Wednesday afternoon.

Juanita Davis of Juanita Davis Road in Mount Vernon was dead at the scene, Rockcastle County Coroner Billy Dowell said.

He said the accident occurred just after 4 p.m. on U.S. 25 South. Davis' southbound Toyota Camry and a northbound pickup truck driven by Michael Allen, whose age and address were not available, apparently collided in the southbound center lane of the three-lane section of roadway.

Allen and a passenger in Davis' car, Rebecca Davis Richardson, who is Davis' granddaughter, were taken to a hospital.

Richardson is in her 20s and a resident of Mount Vernon, the coroner said. Dowell said Davis was a well-known figure in Rockcastle County who was active in the county's Republican party.
