Crash kills 93-year-old woman

- lblackford@herald-leader.com

A 93-year-old woman died Wednesday after a crash between a truck and an SUV at Man o' War Boulevard and Palumbo Drive.

The Fayette County Coroner's office identified the victim as Mary Carter, a passenger in the SUV.

Police said the crash happened at 2:53 p.m., when Jacqueline Carter, 47, of Lexington attempted to turn her black Lexus SUV left onto Palumbo Drive, in front of a black Chevy Silverado pickup driven by Joseph Pollard, 19, of Pleasureville.

Pollard told police he slammed his brakes and attempted to steer to the right to avoid a collision with the Lexus, but he hit it. Carter's SUV was then knocked into a Kia Optima, driven by Connie Schroyer, 64, as she waited at the red light on Palumbo Drive.

The drivers of the vehicles suffered minor injuries; Mary Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that all involved were wearing seat belts and that neither drugs nor alcohol is suspected as a reason for the crash. No charges have been filed in the accident.
