EKU hires former playeras head coach

A former star player at her alma mater, Chrissy Roberts will return to Eastern Kentucky as head coach of the women's basketball team.

Roberts, an assistant at East Carolina, will succeed Larry Joe Inman, who announced his retirement after 20 years at Eastern.

Roberts played two years for Inman, served as a graduate assistant then later spent two years on the EKU staff.

She led the Lady Colonels to their first Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title and first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1997. She was OVC Player of the Year the next season.

”EKU and this basketball program have always held a special place close to my heart,“ Roberts said. ”To return to such a great place ... is truly a blessing.“

■ Bart Flener is the new women's basketball coach at Asbury College. He has a 251-151 record in 14 years as a boys' high school coach, including stops at Lexington Catholic and West Jessamine. He was an assistant men's coach and interim women's coach at Asbury last season.
