VERSAILLES — Rescuers recovered two bodies from the Kentucky River in Woodford County on Sunday night, Sheriff Wayne Wright said.

The male teenagers apparently drowned in the early afternoon near Lock 6 on the Kentucky River, off Oregon Road.

Sometime after 8 p.m., sonar units from Grant County picked up signals indicating they had located the bodies, Wright said.

Officers set up two buoys to help divers focus on the recovery area.

The teenagers' families had been asked to withdraw from the immediate area as officers prepared to recover the bodies.

The teenagers' identifications had not been released as of 10 p.m. Sunday.

The teenagers had been fishing and entered an area of the water with big rocks on the back side of the lock, often called a dam, where they apparently lost their footing, Wright said.
