A McKee woman was improving at the University of Kentucky Hospital after being critically injured in a collision with a state police car Tuesday night.

Ashley Angel's condition was upgraded from critical to serious Thursday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Angel, 24, was injured in Laurel County when the sport-utility vehicle she and her husband were riding in collided with a state police cruiser that was answering an emergency call.

Curtis Angel, 26, who was driving the SUV, was treated and released after the wreck, as was Trooper Parish Baker.

Police said Baker's warning lights and siren were operating when the crash occurred at the intersection of Ky. 30 and the Hal Rogers Parkway about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The case remains under investigation.
