Lexington police have one man in custody and are searching for another after a double shooting Saturday night on Sherman Avenue.

Lt. Wallace Hays said two men were taken to University of Kentucky Hospital with gunshot wounds after the shooting about 8:40 p.m. in the 300 block of Sherman Avenue. One man required surgery but the injuries were not considered life-threatening, he said.

The victims have not been identified; Hays said they were both adults.

As police responded to calls of shots fired, the suspects fled down East Seventh Street toward Shropshire Avenue. An officer saw the car running stop signs and followed them, Hays said.

The two suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. One man, who had not been identified Saturday night, was caught in the 500 block of Breckenridge Street. Police were still searching for another suspect last night, Hays said.

In the course of the search, police found a handgun, but Hays said they can't yet confirm that it was related to the shootings.

He said the shootings are not thought to be domestic violence; neighbors had heard arguing in the street before the shots.
