Darius Miller
Height, weight: 6-7, 223
Class: Freshman Hometown: Maysville
Role: All-around skills only need experience. His role should expand as the season unfolds.
Gillispie says: "He's been as mature as any freshman I've been around. Hopefully, that equates into being the player I think he's going to be. ... He just has all the intangible things that I think will make him a special player."
You played football until the 12th grade. How would you compare playing football with basketball? There's not really a comparison. Basketball is way better in my opinion.
Conditioning in each sport had to be pretty different. Were there any major things? I think in basketball, conditioning had to be about doing more with, like, running, and being in better shape. In football, we didn't really do a lot of conditioning in our football program. I mean we did, it was like running, but we were trying to be stronger more than in shape.
Your dad, Brian, played basketball in college. How much did he work with you growing up? Every single day my dad was working with me, trying to make me a great player. I told my dad I wanted him to make me be the best player I could be, and he tried to do that every day. We worked on everything. He taught me everything I know.
You were pretty lucky to have that. Yeah, definitely.
How much do you pattern your game after his? I used to watch video highlights of him all the time. We're kind of different players though, but I still love to watch him play.
How are you different? We just kind of, I don't know, play different. I'm more of a laid-back player than he was. He was just like all over the place. We have different personalities on the court.
Do you guys ever play one-on-one? Yeah, he used to beat me all the time.
Not anymore? Uh-uh (with a laugh).
What about H-O-R-S-E? I'll say half and half. My dad can really shoot.
