A woman died and four people were injured in a mobile home fire near London early Sunday.

Two of the people injured had been living in the mobile home since earlier this month after their own home in another part of the county burned down, said Detective Charlie Loomis of the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.

Jeanette Smith, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene on High More Road, about 6 miles west of London. Three other adults were airlifted to University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington: Raymond Smith, the victim's boyfriend; and Susan and Henry Smith, a married couple who moved into the High More Road home after their own home burned.

Jeanette Smith's son, 14, was treated at St. Joseph Hospital South in London and discharged, Loomis said.

Jeanette Smith and Raymond Smith rented the mobile home, he said. The relationship between them and the married couple could not be established.

Authorities were called to the scene about 4 a.m. after the teenager, who apparently was awakened and alerted to the fire by Susan Smith, ran to a neighbor's for help. Henry Smith was confined to a wheelchair and had to be helped escaping the home.

Jeanette Smith was found dead in a bedroom, the detective said.

The gas furnace in the mobile home was not connected to a fuel source, and the Smiths apparently had been using the kitchen oven and two portable heaters to heat the home, Loomis said. But authorities don't know whether that contributed to the fire, which was under investigation.
