RICHMOND — Army officials detected a GB vapor leak Monday from an M55 rocket stored at the Blue Grass Army Depot in Madison County.

Inspectors discovered the leak during routine maintenance and monitoring procedures. The leak did not pose a threat to the depot or the surrounding community, according to a news release from Blue Grass Chemical Activity, the agency that oversees chemical weapons storage at the depot.

The rockets that hold the GB, also known as sarin, are kept in shipping and firing tubes in storage igloos. The leak was confined to the tube, and no vapor was detected in the igloo, according to the release.

This is the fifth leak this year at the depot, which Army officials say is normal, the release said. Monday's leak was unrelated to Operation Swift Solution, the ongoing plan to destroy 157 gallons of sarin.
