Kentucky still has several needs as the football coaching staff puts the finishing touches on its 2009 recruiting class, but one position they say they've wrapped up is quarterback.
The Wildcats had been involved with junior-college quarterback Brad McClellan, a 6-foot-4, 207-pounder from College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif. Coaches are not allowed to comment about specific recruits, but UK Coach Rich Brooks said this week that the staff is no longer recruiting the quarterback position.
Kentucky already has commitments from two highly touted high school prospects, Morgan Newton and Ryan Mossakowski. Mossakowski is recovering from a recent shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum.
Kentucky also has four scholarship quarterbacks set to return next fall: Mike Hartline, Randall Cobb, Will Fidler and DeAunte Mason.
The Wildcats have 20 known commitments and are down to their final few scholarships. UK offensive coordinator Joker Phillips said the staff is still looking to fill holes on the defensive line, in the secondary and at running back.
National signing day is Feb. 4.
