Calls come after KET, WKYT digital TV transition

Both PBS member network KET and CBS affiliate WKYT-27 went digital on Thursday, prompting calls from viewers seeking assistance with their home equipment.

WKYT-27 took about 125 calls within three hours of converting to digital television at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Mike Kanarek, vice president of operations for the station, said Thursday afternoon that he expected the call volume to become heavier between 7 and 8 p.m.

KET, which switched at 12:01 a.m., had taken about 50 calls by the afternoon, said spokesman Tim Bischoff. The majority of calls concerned antennas that weren't set up properly. Bischoff urged viewers to press "rescan" on their converter boxes, a move that can solve many problems for those whose boxes were working fine prior to the switch.
