A 55-year-old Mercer County woman was pronounced dead after a one-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon on U.S. 68.

The driver, Theresa S. Hatfield of 1006 Perryville Road, Harrodsburg, may have had a medical problem that contributed to the accident, according to state police in Richmond.

A 7-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained injuries and was airlifted to University of Kentucky Hospital.

The child was in stable condition, police said.

The crash occurred just before 5:20 p.m. when Hatfield's 2004 Ford Explorer ran off U.S. 68, hit a culvert and then struck a tree, police said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
