Crash kills Pike County man

A Pike County man died and another was injured in a single-vehicle crash early Monday.

James B. Mullins, 34, of Phyllis was driving east on Ky. 194 around 6:30 a.m. when he wrecked at a curve, state police said. The vehicle hit some utility poles lying beside the road, overturned and landed upside down in a creek.

Mullins' passenger, Donnie Abshire, 51, of Phyllis, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mullins was taken by helicopter to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.

Neither was wearing a seat belt, police said.
