A Fayette County grand jury indicted a former Scott County high school basketball player on a charge of being a felon in possession of a handgun.

Lexington police arrested Jonathan "Bud" Mackey, 19, on May 14. Officers had responded to a call of shots fired in the 1500 block of Versailles Road and found Mackey with a handgun that was stolen from Franklin County, according to court documents. Another man, Tyler Eugene Foster, 20, was indicted on charges of receiving stolen property and first-degree wanton endangerment in relation to the case.

Mackey's arraignment is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Fayette Circuit Court.

Mackey was the Sweet Sixteen's most valuable player while on Scott County's 2007 state championship team. He had planned to play basketball at Indiana University, but those plans were derailed after his arrest in September 2007. Police said Mackey had 1.6 grams of rock cocaine in his shoe when he was arrested at Scott County High School. He pleaded guilty in August to an amended charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance.
