A natural-gas company plans to expand its regional headquarters in Pikeville and add 100 jobs, the state Economic Development Cabinet announced Thursday.
The jobs at EQT Corp. will have an annual wage of $55,000, the news release said.
The company plans to build a 45,000-square-foot complex at Scott Fork, if the site is suitable and it can work out certain other agreements, the news release said.
EQT has natural-gas production, transmission and distribution operations. It is the largest producer in Appalachia, with about 13,000 wells, according to the cabinet.
"Today's announcement that EQT Corporation will expand their regional headquarters, creating 100 new jobs in Pike County, is fantastic news," Gov. Steve Beshear said in the news release.
EQT's expansion will attract contractors with which it does business, creating more jobs, said Pike County Judge-Executive Wayne T. Rutherford.
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority approved EQT for tax incentives of up to $2.5 million under a program designed to attract technology and service jobs.
