The Great American Pie Contest and Ice Cream Social served slices and scoops at Cheapside Park on Wednesday. The event, which kicked off Lexington's Fourth of July festivities, was sponsored by Meijer and the Downtown Lexington Corp. Barbara Harper Bach of Lexington took first and second prizes in the Best Overall Pie for Non-Professional Bakers category. Janie Lunsford of Lexington won third place for her cherry pie. Christie Eubank's entry won the award for prettiest pie. Barbara Pollitt of Missy's Pies won in the professional category for her chocolate praline pie. More than 50 pies were entered, up from 37 last year.
