Two classic works by the late Eastern Kentucky writer Verna Mae Slone have been combined into a single edition.

The University Press of Kentucky has just released a combined edition of Slone's books How We Talked and Common Folks. It retails for $25.

How We Talked is about Appalachian language, and Common Folks is her 1979 memoir about growing up and living in Knott County.

Slone, who spent most of her life in Pippa Passes, died in January at age 94. She was also the author of the memoir What My Heart Wants to Tell and the novel Rennie's Way.
