July 14, 2009

University of Kentucky student Billy Kopp sat atop the World Series of Poker Main Event standings Tuesday evening, when the original field of 6,494 had been whittled down to 29.

Play was to continue Tuesday until 27 players remained. Kopp, a business major from Erlanger who wore a UK cap for the competition at Las Vegas, is vying to be one of nine players left at the end of play Wednesday that will return in November to compete at the final table for a first prize of $8.55 million.
