Josie's Grab N Go is staying open, thanks to a "guardian angel."

The gourmet carry-out store in Chevy Chase was slated to be closed Saturday. Not only that, owners Bobby and Jennifer Murray were in the process of putting their Lansdowne home up for sale because of the dearth of customers. They had used their home to finance Josie's, which has been open since February.

On Wednesday, a real estate agent went through the Murrays' home, telling them what they needed to fix in order to sell the place.

By Wednesday night, the situation had changed drastically.

"We had a guardian angel come in last night and say, 'I want to help. What do you need?'" Jennifer Murray said. "So, we have another backer."

The new backer and loyal customers, who have been coming in to stock up on their favorite foods since hearing that the store was closing, have changed the outlook for Josie's, Murray said.

"We've had record days every day this week," she said.

The Murrays are re-evaluating how they operate Josie's.

"Ninety-eight percent of everything we do is from scratch. I think we did not anticipate the labor intensity from the get-go," Jennifer Murray said. She said two or three more people will be added to the staff, and Josie's offerings might change a little.

"This has been a dream of my husband's since 10, 15, 20 years ago," she said. "We put our heart and soul into it and we're just tickled to stay open ... Our lives this week have been so up and down. It's just been unbelievable."

The Murray family also runs Murray's and Merrick Inn restaurants.
