A man died after a crash at New Circle and Russell Cave roads in Lexington Saturday morning.
James Hughes, 76, of Lexington was driving a 1986 Toyota Corolla south on Russell Cave Road when he ran the red light at New Circle Road at about 6:42 a.m., Lexington police said.
Mr. Hughes' car collided with a Chevrolet pickup that was westbound on New Circle, then hit a Mitsubishi Lancer that was stopped in the left turn lane on eastbound New Circle.
Mr. Hughes was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:45 a.m., according to the Fayette County coroner's office.
The driver of the pickup, Benny Speigle, 58, of Lexington, was injured in the crash. The driver of the Lancer, Kristin Case, 26, of Lawrenceburg, was not injured. She and Speigle had been wearing seat belts.
Lexington police said they did not know whether Mr. Hughes had been wearing a seat belt.
