KLC Board Accepts Sylvia Lovely's Decision to Move On

Sylvia Lovely, the executive director/CEO of Kentucky League of Cities, has informed the KLC Executive Board of her decision to pursue other opportunities. The Executive Board has accepted her decision. Sylvia will leave KLC by the close of 2009.

The decision followed a meeting between Sylvia and the Executive Board on August 19 in a closed personnel session.

The Executive Board believes that Sylvia's departure comes at the right time - for the organization, as well as for Sylvia and her future endeavors.

Sylvia agrees that the timing is right. She noted that her decision is based largely on enabling KLC to move forward under new leadership, while allowing her to explore new opportunities.

Details on the terms of her remaining tenure at KLC and retirement package are forthcoming from the Executive Board.

Sylvia has helped mold KLC into the valuable, successful organization that it is today. In many ways, she has been a visionary in her field.

Sylvia began her career at KLC in 1988 as an attorney and became executive director in 1990. Since that time, she has put the organization on the map, creating an association with 82 employees and a range of services including legal, legislative, training, finance and insurance programs. KLC has approximately 380 members and KLC Insurance Services has more than 520 members.

No timeline has been set for Sylvia's replacement.

As you know, the Executive Board is reviewing virtually all areas of the League's management and financial operations. As we continue this process, we will keep you informed of our progress.

Organizational Oversight

The Executive Board will continue to work closely with staff and members.

Executive Deputy Director/COO Neil Hackworth will continue to run the day-to day operations of the League in his capacity as Chief Operating Officer.

The rest of KLC's Executive Team will oversee the following:
