The Flight 5191 Memorial Commission is seeking professional artists and landscapers for the creation of a permanent memorial honoring the 49 people who died in the crash of Comair Flight 5191 at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport in August 2006.
The commission has issued a "request for qualifications" for the project. Qualified people will be asked to submit formal proposals for the memorial, which is to be at the Arboretum on Alumni Drive.
The commission plans to select five proposals for consideration.
Commission members want the memorial, which is to be at the center of an established rose garden, to include a marker with the crash victims' names and an expression of gratitude to first responders and the community.
Copies of the request for qualifications may be obtained from the Web site: www.flight5191memorial.com.
A press release says the deadline to submit qualifications is Sept. 4.
