PARIS — State police have filed a murder charge against a man who already faces two counts of attempted murder for allegedly trying to run over two Bourbon County jail employees last month.

The murder charge was filed two weeks after an investigator testified that Bass Webb confessed to killing a Cynthiana woman. The case was sent to a grand jury Aug. 12.

Webb, 30, of Means was arrested July 31 after a car chase from the Bourbon County jail, where Webb allegedly tried to run over the two employees.

Webb stopped the car he was driving when it caught fire, police said.

A detective testified in Bourbon District Court earlier this month that Webb told police he cut off Bryia Runiewicz's head and then left her lying on a couch covered with a blanket.

Runiewicz, 32, was later found dead at her home on New Lair Road in Cynthiana.

Webb is being held at the Fayette County jail.

State police said prosecutors are reviewing the case and have not decided whether they will seek the death penalty.
