Interstate 75 in Whitley County reopened Wednesday morning after a tractor-trailer carrying cattle overturned.

The tractor-trailer crashed in the northbound lane of I-75 near the 22-mile marker about 3 a.m., Kentucky State Police said. After the wreck, some cattle roamed the interstate, causing additional accidents when drivers hit the animals.

Several cattle died in the initial accident and subsequent wrecks.

There were no major injuries, police said

I-75 was closed much of the morning while authorities recovered cattle and cleaned up the scene.
